(El Centro Police will be setting up a DUI Checkpoint)...The Department says the Checkpoint will be set-up Friday.

The DUI Checkpoint will run from 6 pm Friday to 2 am Saturday. They say it will be set up at the 2900 Block of South Dogwood Road. El Centro Police Department says the locations for Checkpoints are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. They say the primary purpose of DUI Checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road. ECPD reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over the counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is not legal. Funding from this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
