Eastern San Diego County communities can expect to lose power.
San Diego Gas and Electric sent notices that strong Santa Ana winds forecast for the communities Monday and Tuesday means that the power will be shut off to lessen the threat of power lines sparking a fire. Among the communities receiving the notice are Campo, Descanso, Julian, Alpine and other communities in eastern and northern San Diego County. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds up to 70 miles per hour along Interstate 8 east of Alpine and as High as 90 miles per hour in the upper elevations of the mountains. SDG&E and other utilities shut off power before windstorms to lessen the chance of wildfires.
