A four-car accident took two lives Wednesday afternoon.

El Centro Police responded to the intersection of First and Main Streets at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday. Preliminary investigation shows that two of the four vehicles involved were possibly engaged in illegal street racing at the time of the accident. One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene. Another driver was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center where they succumbed to their injuries. One of the drivers, an adult resident of Imperial, was taken into custody and booked into Imperial County Jail. Main Street was closed for several hours as police continued their investigation. El Centro Police are actively investigating the incident as vehicular manslaughter.
