A tractor trailer caught fire Friday night.

The fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 5:42 p.m. on State Route 78, just west of Hovely Road. Brawley Fire responded to the scene and found the trailer of the big rig was on fire and that the driver had been unable to detach it from the tractor. Both westbound lanes of the highway were shut down and vehicles were routed to the left turn lane to keep traffic moving. Emergency crews were able to clear the area at about 8:00 p.m. and the cleanup continued into the evening. No injuries were reported.
