Three people, including a firefighter, were treated at a Yuma hospital after a Saturday house fire.

Yuma Fire Department responded to the fire in the 3400 block of West 17th Place at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The residents of the house had safely evacuated from the burning home but a pet remained inside. Fire crews determined that, due to the risk of roof collapse, they would assume a defensive operational strategy and keep the fire from spreading to nearby structures. The two occupants of the home were taken to the hospital for smoke related complaints and a Yuma firefighters was also transported to the hospital for injuries. The pet in the home died of apparent smoke inhalation. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
