(Calexico Unified School District appointed two new board members)....They filled the vacancies left by 2 members who were elected to other positions in November.
California Election Codes say that school boards have the authority to appoint members when vacancies arise. However, they must also notify the public and inform them they have 30 days to petition for a special election. The Calexico board did not do that, not in the time frame allowed. A Calexico group has formed a committee to seek signatures to present to the Imperial County Office of Education, asking for a special election to fill the vacancies. They are seeking 340 signatures to submit to the ICOE asking for the special election. The committee says they have nothing against the two who were appointed by the Calexico Board, but they ddo have a problem with the Calexico Board.
